AT HOLY SEPULCHRE CHURCH in Sheep Street, Northampton there is a long standing military tradition stretching back over the centuries. Effort has always been made to assist enquiries from (mainly) relatives of former members of the Northamptonshire and Rutland Militia. Any one wishing to enquire of a military relative please contact David Parish MBE on 01604 846 047

As explained elsewhere in the Restoration Story, the trustees are extremely grateful to the various  military organisations and military bands for their huge contributions to Holy Sepulchre through finance, secretariat and military  presence at major church events.

Just some of the major benefits brought to this world famous building are the provision of the Upper  Level disability door, numerous and considerable financial contributions to “The Soldiers’ Chapel”  conservation and the immense soldier turnouts that have accompanied the numerous royal visits down  the years since 1982.
Some tens of thousands of pounds have been raised from 21 military band concerts alone.

A photographic catalogue of those connections are shown here out of a collection of hundreds of  exclusives.  An impressive twenty new chairs, each with a brass plaque attachment ( ten are  dedicated to those who made the Ultimate Sacrifice ) proudly  colour match the Northamptonshire Colours  sealed cabinets reminding of those dark days of the early  wars. Newly  added to the chapel is the Old  Regimental Colour of The 2nd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment, presented to Holy Sepulchre for  safe keeping and display following a parade of 100 soldiers of The Royal Anglian Regiment and  accompanied by The Band of the Irish Guards. See the write up and photographs below. Keeping watch over this special place is the Book of Remembrance  listing the sacrifice of 6040 soldiers from this area who gave their lives in the two Great Wars that we  should have our freedom.
A single Poppy from The Tower of London display 2014 proudly recognises just one of the entries in  the book.

New Addition to our Military Memorials here at the Soldiers' Church

Sunday 26th May 2019

…a day when the dedication of a family plaque took place within the morning eucharist…members of the Barthorp family gathered to witness the Holy Sepulchre acceptance of a hero of the first world war aligning the plaque beneath that of his father on the South Aisle wall. Please view the accompanying photograph.

THE UPPER PLAQUE is dedicated to Lt. Col. Arthur Herbert BARTHORP, Commanding Officer, Northamptonshire Regiment who died June 18th 1918 whilst commanding the Regiment Depot on the Barrack Road, Northampton.

THE LOWER PLAQUE arrived from the old chapel at FONTHILL SCHOOL and is dedicated to Michael Arthur  Raymond BARTHORP, Lt. 1st Batt Northamptonshire Regiment. Eldest son of Major and Mrs Barthorp, who was killed at Poziers, France 20th July 1918 in the war with Germany, aged 19years.

The Restoration Trust is thankful for the donation in order to bring father and son together in memorium at Northampton’s Soldiers’ Church.

The Military Occasion took place Saturday 30th July 2016. The Regiments mascot name is 'The Poacher'  hence the picture of the poacher who at times marches with the Battalion Band. Pictures show past and present soldiers. On this occasion the band was The Band of the Irish Guards.
